Bella Montagna - Napa County

What we love about Bella Montagna

Not your average Wine Country villa, Bella Montagna is a luxury three bedroom estate perched mountaintop above the hamlet of Calistoga. Remote by nature, this stately retreat is a destination in and of itself, one we recommend for major privacy and exclusivity, if not for the feeling of wonder you experience upon arrival. The road from the floor of the Napa Valley winds leisurely up the Mayacamas Mountains, offering spectacular snapshots of the vineyards and a towering Mount St. Helena before revealing itself to the circular driveway and stone archways of Bella Montagna. Reminiscent of a Italian country farmhouse, this villa is divided into a three bedroom main house and a one bedroom cottage, offering a whole 5,000 square feet of living space for your group to comfortably unwind together and take in the awe-inspiring scenery from every room. Its interiors feature radiant floor heating, tall French doors, artisan-designed chandeliers and a careful consideration of reclaimed wood and other sustainable materials. Here we invite you to cozy up next to the wood burning fireplace, gather round in the gourmet kitchen for glasses of wine and bite-sized nibbles, hire a private chef for intimate dinners in, or settle into a good movie in the living room’s plush sofa lounge. An immaculate brand new swimming pool beckons you to bring the party outside where you can cook and drink amidst the modern alfresco bar and grill space. A setting this special leaves you no choice but to embrace the undemanding lifestyle of Wine Country and celebrate a good time with friends and family.

Good to Know

Bella Montagna, translating to ‘Beautiful Mountain’ in Italian, enjoys a remote location that serves as either its appeal or aversion to visitors; if what you’re pining for is a true escape from the modern world and a place to settle in for a while, then Bella Montagna is for you. Set on over 40 acres, you are sure to discover a crisscross of hiking trails and natural springs that trickle down the hillside into a small pond, a lovely place to sit in peace and quiet; just be sure to watch out for your little ones here! This stunning setting was once the home of renowned landscape artist Virgil Williams, whose paintings of the vistas hang in museums and galleries to this day — a quaint, hand-quarried stone cottage from the 1880’s remains intact as a reminder of those days. A short walk from the house is a wonderful old “batten board” barn. Half the barn has been converted to a combination of guest quarters, a workout room and a section that can be used for entertaining. The guest suite is a large, open room with a queen bed, sitting and dining area, TV, and a kitchenette with sink, refrigerator and microwave.

Eat, Drink & Play

At Bella Montagna you can have your mountaintop location and experience the delights of Wine Country too! A 20 minute drive will bring you to Calistoga, a Napa Valley destination that retains the charm of yesteryear with its tree-lined streets, raised wooden sidewalks and parks with gazebos for picnics and live music. Shops, galleries, tasting rooms and popular restaurants dot the avenues of this historic town, along with farmer’s markets and roadside stands that offer delicious seasonal fruits and veggies. Keep driving and you will stumble upon an endless array of world-class wineries, state parks, culinary institutes and hot springs — check out a few of our favorite locales in this region:

  • Calistoga Farmer’s Market
A sociable, year-round market that offers fresh, seasonally picked produce, seafood, preserves and baked goods
  • Old Faithful Geyser
Only one of 3 geysers in the U.S. to erupt regularly
  • Calistoga Spa Hot Springs
Pamper yourself with a day of mud baths, massages, and hot spring pools and jacuzzis
  • Castello di Amoroso
This may be the most talked about winery in Napa Valley. What’s causing all the buzz? Perhaps it’s the scale of the building and how it overshadows the other wineries in the region.
  • Solbar
Michelin-star restaurant with beautiful views and an even better menu
  • Bothe-Napa Valley State Park
Hiking trails through the redwoods with ultimate views of the valley and mountains
  • Bale Grist Mill State Historic Park
Take a tour of this fully functional and water-powered grist mill for a glimpse into Napa Valley’s past identity as wheat growers, not grape growers
  • Calistoga Balloons
An adventure you won’t soon forget- unbelievable views of all of Napa and Sonoma Valley.
  • Sterling Winery
Take their gondola ride up to taste nicely crafted wines atop a grassy knoll overlooking the vineyards below
  • The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone: Cooking Demonstrations
One hour is just enough time to whet your appetite for more at the famed CIA. Cooking demonstrations last approximately one hour and included are recipes, video presentations and—the best part—tasting…
  • Napa Valley Wine Train
This moving party will give you unique views of the vines all the while being wined and dining in vintage Pullman cars
