Mallard - Sonoma County

Imagine an uninterrupted and private view from right above the town of Sonoma, where your vista is to lush, green woods and distant hills. Mallard Drive is part of the exclusive Mission Highlands and its glass and wood composition invites the scenery to become part of its design. This 4-bedroom/4.5-bath mid-century contemporary home opens onto a level promontory where the terrace and pool afford 180-degree views

Contemporary lines and dramatic, two-story walls of glass welcome the indoor-outdoor wine country lifestyle. The nearly perfect climate will draw you out to the expansive level terrace where you can unwind in the shade of a graceful ancient oak tree or take a plunge in the pool. Sunrise or sunset, the huge arc of sky is streaked with gold and pink light. Float your cares away as you drift through the cool water with nature’s artwork all around you.

The house was built out from a rocky hillside that was left intact. The rear bedrooms are level with the rustic hillock, and a wooden walkway leads to a lounging or casual dining area there. Succulents, cactus and other indigenous plants grow among the outcroppings and mature trees provide shade and privacy.

You’ll luxuriate in the refreshing and carefree lifestyle that Mallard Drive inspires. With the lively town of Sonoma just moments away, you can have the best of what wine country has to offer and your own private getaway.

Savor the spirit of wine country living in this exciting home that is newly remodeled throughout. A blending of outdoor beauty and a casually elegant lifestyle, the home’s dramatic walls of glass, intersected by wooden beams, soar to the second floor and frame the views for nearly every room. A flowing design enhances the connection with one another and with the setting, and a pebbled floor pattern continues outdoors to the level terrace and around the pool.

The entry brings you into the 2-story greatroom with a floor-to-ceiling natural stone fireplace that divides the space and acts as one wall of the den/media room on the first floor, which has a flatscreen TV, a wine refrigerator and bar. On the upper floor, a second fireplace opens out in the opposite direction to the family room. The greatroom, with its unsurpassed views, is the heart of this home, with double glass doors leading out to the pool and an open kitchen that fosters friendly interaction. The sleek kitchen has all new stainless steel appliances and matte black granite counters with striped-wood cabinets.

The first floor bedroom’s glass door opens to the terrace and a graceful ancient oak tree. All the bedrooms are done in creamy, muted tones that allow the green hills and blue skies to add their brilliant color. The bath has contemporary fixtures, tiled shower and tub, and a granite and striped-wood vanity.

Up a wrought iron spiral staircase, you’ll pause to experience the stunning views. On the second floor you step into a spacious gathering place with light hardwood floors, computer desk, flatscreen TV and fireplace. Off that is a bath with double sink vanity in white laminate and a shower and tub, connecting to the bedroom beyond which opens to a small deck. Another bedroom suite has sliding glass doors that open to the walkway to a lounging or casual dining area in the rear, and a third bedroom enjoys a view over the pool and forested hills and opens to a deck. The bedrooms all have flatscreen TV’s, hardwood floors and private white-themed bathrooms with shower and tub.

You’ll delight in the comforts of Mallard Drive and the carefree lifestyle that is the hallmark of the Sonoma wine country.

"We used BeautifulPlaces to help us plan our annual multi-generational family vacation. Sarah found us a wonderful property and helped us plan everything including our delicious arrival dinner that was prepared and ready to eat when we arrived. Every one of her suggestions were on-point, and my out of town guests marveled at the property, views, and bounty of Sonoma County."

The property on Mallard Drive has been beautifully updated. The open, modern design flows nicely onto the many patio’s, lookout points, and into the extended yard with pool and hot-tub. Views around every corner, you can’t help but stare at the vineyards and wish for a wine country home of your own. The hot tub is not to be missed, perched on a ledge looking out over the rolling vineyards. The rooms are tastefully appointed, worthy of a 5 star resort. We will definitely be using BeautifulPlaces again!
