Stonefield - Sonoma County

Imagine stepping through the front door of a converted 1910 barn into a sophisticated 2010 wine country home, designed with exquisite and thoughtful details to ensure luxurious comfort. Continue the fantasy and imagine that you are able to stroll to outstanding restaurants, outdoor cafes, charming boutiques and the wine tasting rooms that ring the historic Sonoma Plaza. Stonefield makes these dreams come true.

At Stonefield you can experience complete privacy and tranquility in the heart of town in this sustainably constructed 3,300-square-foot home and 650-square-foot guesthouse. Originally part of an historic property, the barns’ rustic character was retained in the new structure, keeping it in harmony with the surrounding hills and fields in this quiet neighborhood. Opt for an extended stay and live life like the locals do—savoring each day and leaving the hectic pace of the city behind.

The wine country lifestyle thrives on the region’s Mediterranean climate and the home embraces this spirit with the indoor-outdoor nature of its design. French doors access the grounds from each room, and the Great Room’s wall of windows fold back to create a flow between the house and the secluded courtyard, extending the entertainment and dining space.

Adjoining the extensive courtyard and outdoor dining and bar area is a 650-square-foot guesthouse with an open kitchen that can also be used for al fresco meals. The natural landscaping and fieldstone terrace provide an outdoor oasis that exerts an irresistible pull, day or night. With a sparkling custom pool and an expansive lanai with a covered dining area, wet bar and icemaker, the grounds take full advantage of Sonoma’s perfect climate.

The interior of Stonefield evokes the heritage of its past and integrates it with today’s amenities. As you enter, 20-foot-ceilings bring light and a distinctive personality to the home. Fine detailing and reclaimed materials compliment the sleek, modern accents like travertine floors that feature radiant heat.

The farmhouse kitchen is a place for joyful celebrations, family gatherings and the simple pleasures of sharing a meal made from local ingredients. Fully outfitted with a six-burner Wolfe Range, double ovens, custom cabinetry, deep marble counters and a zinc-topped wet bar, the layout puts everything at your fingertips. The stainless steel appliances include a see-through, sub-zero refrigerator, wine cooler and two dishwashers, and there are three sinks with disposals and a separate preparation area with walk-in pantry. This artful mix of contemporary design blends with authentic elements such as the 17th century stones that make up the floors in the kitchen and guesthouse, to create a refined, yet comfortable feel.

The Great Room offers a variety of environments from a peaceful corner where you can curl up with a magazine to a conversation or game section and a more formal living room area with a large gas fireplace, plush couches and chairs. An armoire conceals a flatscreen TV and the house has high-speed Internet access and an internal sound system.

An open stairway leads up to the guest suite with queen bed and a twin trundle, which occupies the second level of the home. This private space looks out over the side yard and nearby fields. The en suite bathroom has marble floors, a white-tiled shower and a sea-green cast concrete sink.

The romantic master suite is on the main level. A short hallway from the Great Room leads to an enclosed sun porch and then on to the master suite. Powder blue walls soar up to 20 feet and two pair of French doors open to the courtyard and to a secluded garden. The king bed, lit by a graceful hanging chandelier, is draped in sumptuous linens and faces the two tiers of windows that look onto the grounds.

The master bath, with its oversized soaking tub and tiled steam/shower for two, is like having your own spa. Two free-standing vanities topped with Carrara marble, a walk-in closet and separate toilet allow you to unwind alone or share the pleasures of this space together.

A third potential bedroom on the main floor is currently used as an office and can be converted to a bedroom for longer term stays. Light and spacious, this room features built-in counters and cabinetry, plentiful windows and sliding doors.

The spacious guesthouse is furnished in a French country style with a queen bed, a casual dining area and built-in twin daybeds. It has WiFi and TV, a full bathroom and is equipped with an open kitchen with marble counters, gas range and dishwasher, that can be used for al fresco meals on the lanai.

Lounge by the pool, dive in its refreshing waters, lunch in the lanai or at the table in the sunny courtyard. When evening approaches, gather around the firepit at the pool and watch the sun set, changing the sky from turquoise to dazzling shades of pink and gold. Immerse yourself in Sonoma’s remarkable lifestyle and experience real wine country at Stonefield.
