Villa Giulia - Amalfi Coast, Italy

Villa Giulia is situated along the pathway leading to the museum of Villa S. Michele, a residence originally commissioned by the Swedish writer Axel Munthe. Capri symbolized the ideal haven for artists and other key figures of European culture and today it is still possible to experience the unique atmosphere, which enraptured those famous visitors years ago.

The refined hospitality offered by Villa Giulia represents the perfect synthesis between the island’s past and present.

Choosing Capri for a holiday means allowing oneself to be seduced by its astounding natural beauty, unexpected tranquillity, vibrant colors, and intoxicating perfumes. Capri offers visitors numerous opportunities to explore sites of historical interest and to behold the natural beauty of the island.

Description

Villa Giulia, a historical Caprian country residence in Neapolitan style dating back to the early 17th century and once home to the Barons Monti Della Corte, is one of the few Caprian villas of the era still intact.

The present owner, a distinguished antiquarian and art collector, has painstakingly restored the villa and, due to the quality of the workmanship and superb interior decoration inspired by the themes of art and travel, this historical residence retains all its charm. The atmosphere has not been disturbed by the careful restoration carried out by the owner who, whilst maintaining the historical and architectural features of the building intact, has managed to transform the house into an exclusive historical residence.

Behind the villa’s green gate, one finds an enchanting world so idyllically peaceful that it is easy to forget that this paradise lies right in the heart of bustling Anacapri. Steps ornamented by columns lead through the garden up to the main entrance. In this glorious setting, with its century old trees, marvellous displays of flowers, and splendid swimming pool hidden amongst the flora, the owner and her staff extend the warmest of welcomes to each and every guest.

The overwhelming lounge is adorned by arch shaped ceilings, plenty of flowers, oriental carpets, and old stoves. The villa offers 6 unique and elegant rooms and one, two bedroom, two bathroom garden suite, all meticulously restored and furnished with beautiful pieces of antique furniture, which are immersed in the exquisitely perfumed and marvellously colourful "literary garden" and equipped with every modern comfort. The rooms are named after famous guests who have stayed there over the centuries and have been beautifully furnished in a way that perfectly complement the style of the renovated building.

Guests can find sheer relaxation in its spacious bathrooms, which boast, according to the theme of their room, a Turkish bath, plunge pool, duplex shower, or Jacuzzi. Most bedrooms have glorious, flower-covered terraces with superb views of the sea or the gardens.

All rooms have air conditioning, LCD satellite television, DVD, safety deposit box, mini bar and Internet access.

The artists’ Room (Main villa): A delightful, frescoed room, inspired by the era of the fabulous Marchigiana bookcase, work of the well-known artist Enrica Capone. A splendid bathroom in white marble mosaic and two antique bathtubs dating back to the 18th century complete the furnishings. The artist's room can be converted from twin beds to a single queen-size bed.

The Voyager’s room (Main villa): Rare artefacts and souvenirs brought back from voyages to the Orient create an exotic atmosphere in this splendid room. From the large four-poster bed, hung with beautiful light colored drapes, one can look out towards the spacious terrace.

The Venetian room (Main villa): The highlight of this impressive room is the 18th century Venetian book case, placed at the entrance to the boudoir, which has a large Turkish bath crafted in Scagliola. An exquisite marble table, just perfect for breakfast to be served upon, enhances the enchanting flower-decked terrace.

The Collector’s room (Main villa): Once the master bedroom, this bedroom still houses a fabulous collection of Neapolitan paintings from the 1700’s, which form a splendid backdrop to the beautiful fabrics, which drape the two large beds. The spacious bathroom has a Jacuzzi and enjoys a sea view from the terrace.

The Louis XVI Room (Main villa): An exquisite Louis XVI boiserie panels an entire wall and inspires the name of this sumptuous room with its large four-poster bed. The bathroom is in Scagliola and has a plunge pool. The charming terrace looks out over the delicately perfumed garden.

The Oriental Room (Main villa): Situated at the very top of the villa, this room is furnished entirely with Chinese furniture and Coeve fabrics. The bathroom has a shower made from Venetian mosaic. This room does not have a terrace.

The Garden Suite Complex (Annex): The newly renovated “Garden Suite” is a duplex bedroom and bath with fully functional empire marble tub where guests can relax in an atmosphere designed for sophisticated elegance and pampered seclusion. Up to four people can sleep in this garden Suite, as there are two separate bedrooms and bathrooms.

Garden and Pool

Villa Giulia’s elegant swimming pool is immersed in the lush garden. The contrasts of the green colour of the pool, the water, and the stones create a sublime harmony, diffusing a calm and serenity, making the hours spent at the poolside moments of sheer relax. Guests will love a refreshing dip in the pool, a drink whilst soaking up the sunshine, or a delicious snack.

Descending the ancient flight of stone steps, one finds oneself in the wonderful "Secret Garden" – the fruit of the loving attention of generations of ladies who have tended to it over the years. Bushes of Viburnum Mariesii, the Datura with their "Angel's Trumpet" flowers, pomegranate trees, passion flowers, and arches of climbing roses create the perfect setting for a moment of reading, music, or quiet meditation.
